July 2010

Mercedes-Benz dealerships ranked highest in the newly released 2010 Pied Piper Prospect Satisfaction Index (PSI) U.S. Auto Industry Study, one of a series of unique national benchmarking studies using ?mystery shoppers? to measure and compare how consumers are treated when shopping.

Detroit brands led the way in 2010 for most improvement, with Ford, Lincoln and Chevrolet scoring above the industry average for the first time since PSI auto industry benchmarking began four years ago.

The independent study sent 3,658 hired anonymous ?mystery shoppers? into auto dealerships nationwide, then used the patent-pending PSI process to compile the results into an accurate measurement of how each brand?s dealerships treat car shoppers.

Chevy Is First Non-Luxury Brand On PSI List

July 2010

Mercedes-Benz dealerships ranked highest in the new 2010 Pied Piper Prospect Satisfaction Index (PSI) U.S. Auto Industry study. But Detroit automakers are the most improved in the study, which uses "mystery shoppers" to gauge how consumers are treated while shopping.

In the study, 25 of 34 major auto brands have higher scores, led by luxury brands: Lexus came in second overall, followed by Land Rover, Acura, Jaguar, Audi, Cadillac, Lincoln and BMW.

Chevrolet is the first non-luxury brand to appear on the list, coming in at No. 10 and followed by Ford, Honda, Infiniti, Mazda and Toyota. At the bottom of the PSI are Mitsubishi in last, preceded by Suzuki, Scion, Saab, and Mini. Just above them are Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge.

Ford, Lincoln and Chevrolet were the most-improved brands, scoring above the industry average for the first time since PSI auto industry benchmarking began four years ago.

Victory Ranks No. 1 for Customer Service

May 2010

With more than a 40 percent decline in motorcycle retail sales in 2009, every customer counts. No one knows that more than salespeople, and they've proven it with their customer service scores.

One particular area the industry excelled in compared to last year was the sales staff asking for trade-ins. This happened 42 percent more often in 2010 than the previous year. Other areas that also saw double-digit improvements were the salespeople asking about factors preventing the purchase and the salesperson discussing features unique from the competition.

Those are the findings from the 2010 Pied Piper Prospect Satisfaction Index (PSI).

Victory dealers top motorcycle satisfaction study

May 2010

The year just past was pretty brutal for the motorcycle industry, with retail sales of on-highway bikes down over 40%. Victory, however, is one motorcycle brand whose dealers others might want to study. That's because Victory dealers seem to understand that doing some basic things -- like learning customers' names and letting them swing a leg over a motorcycle -- can make shoppers happy and help close a sale.

Dealer Lab is a joint venture between Dealernews and PowerHouse Dealer Services, s consulting firm run by former dealer, Bill Shenk. Bill took over management in July 2009 of two underperforming Florida dealerships, and Dealer Lab reports his efforts to turn the two dealerships around. Pied Piper PSI “mystery shopping” is being used to measure how effectively the two dealerships sell, and to diagnose needed changes in sales behavior. This first article shares findings from a baseline round of PSI evaluations, which showed that while both dealerships performed well above the U.S. motorcycle industry average, both still had room for improvement.
